Venice, Italy

While Amsterdam is the city of the canals where the people (aka tourists) consume every kind of drug you can imagine, along with the cool Tim Burton atmosphere, Venice traditionally is the city of the canals for the couples to spend a romantic weekend. Both cities can be compared on a lot of areas, like the fact that Amsterdam adapted the old city to the new generations, while in Venice most of the people live in Venecia Mestre, the continental part of the city who’s connected to the islands of the old city by two bridges (one with a road and the other for the trains). Appart from that detail, Venice is a unique city, almost a dream come true in my personal experience. The old city, seen from the air, looks like a big fish made of little islands, all of them connected by small bridges. Crossing this huge urban aglomeration of red and orange houses is the Grand Canal, where you may find several Vaporetto lines that you will mostly use to cross from long distances between the islands (all of them stop in the most important places). It is important to remark that Venice has no streets for cars. It’s the perfect city to get lost (you probably will, even if you don’t want to). The crème de la crème of Venice is, though, the Piazza San Marco, where you find the Campanile with the best panoramic views, the gorgeous Palazzo Duccale and the Basilica di San Marco. As a huge bonus, I went to the city when the Carnival of Venice was still hot and also, at the same time, the record of snow in the city, so both combined gave as a result some great shots on pictures and videos. Grab your popcorn and enjoy!
